Overview
River Cities Capital Funds is one of the most active and experienced venture funds investing in the Midwest and Southeastern United States. With $390 million under management and over 75 investments over fourteen years, River Cities has established itself as a preferred partner among the regional entrepreneurial and broader venture capital communities.
Heritage
River Cities traces its roots back to the corporate finance advisory firm of Mayfield & Robinson Inc, founded in Cincinnati in 1978. That firm assisted small and middle-market companies throughout the region with strategic planning, sourcing new capital and advising on M&A activity. Our experience being on the "other side of the table" helping entrepreneurs to build their businesses impacts everything we do and makes us better venture capital investors.
History
In 1994, the firm shifted to venture management and launched the $45 million River Cities Capital Fund I. Following the success of the debut fund, the partners raised $90 million for Fund II in 1999 and $137 million for Fund III in 2001. Fund IV closed in March 2008 with $120 million to invest. We have created attractive exit events and excellent returns to our limited partners in all stages of economic and venture capital cycles.
Team
River Cities investment principals average more than 15 years of venture experience, which provides the perspective to discern and evaluate the critical elements of a potential investment. We bring to bear a broad range of prior experience including legal, accounting, consulting, engineering, operations and investment banking. Portfolio executives rely on our wide-ranging expertise to overcome the inevitable challenges faced by growth companies.
Strategy
River Cities seeks to invest in high growth information technology and healthcare companies that have a material customer base and are nearing profitability. These expansion stage opportunities offer our investors high return opportunities with manageable risk. This strategy has enabled us to become the performance and reputation leader in our geography.
Regional Concentration
River Cities primarily invests in our natural market territories of the Midwest and Southeast, where our deep network of personal contacts generates significant proprietary and relationship based deal flow and allows us to remain actively engaged with our portfolio companies. River Cities principals dedicate the time and persistent effort to uncover the best investments.
More Than Money
Many VCs say they add value. River Cities' managers deliver. We participate as a trusted partner side-by-side with company executives to provide resources and services to leverage their time and efforts. We seek to be a business partner first and a capital provider second. |
